“What uniform can I wear to hide my heavy heart?

It is too heavy.

It will always show.

Jacques felt himself growing gloomy again.

He was well aware that to live on earth

a man must follow its fashions,

and hearts

were no longer

worn.”

Already Winter In There

Black heart

I take it out of my pocket, offer it to the sky, and
this inky basalt heart flecked with quartz
grows warm in the slanting October
sunshine, maybe even warmer
than the flesh one that
beats in my chest.

Heart Stones

Heart shaped stone

A most recently acquired obsessive compulsion - scouring the shore line for heart shaped stones. I feel a sense of urgency when I'm looking for them... as if all the good ones will already have been scooped up by another obsessive... someone with better sight and knees that don't cry out for mercy when they're asked to bend down so a stone can be picked up..

The ones that I've found share something in common with the Jizo's I made - they're kind of lumpish and misshapen and they look a whole lot better in a group. They sort of grow into themselves and become more heart-like in a crowd the way the Jizo's personalities came out when I was able to get them to hold still for a group picture...
